CONQUERING TEMPTATIONS
The Yogic Way
Sometimes it seems difficult to be good, while it is easy to be bad; and that to give up the bad things into miss something. But is being bad worth the pleasure it gives?
BE AWARE
Whenever there is an overwhelming desire in your heart for something, use your discrimination. Ask yourself “is it good or bad desire for which I seek fulfillment?”
AVOID MATERIALISM
Material desires encourage our bad habits by giving false hopes of satisfaction is momentary and addictive.
CONTROL
The old unorthodox way is to deny all temptations, to suppress it. You will reach nowhere if you do that. Learn to control the temptations rather than have it control you.
DEVELOP THE WON’T
Want to buy a new dress? Let the thought pass by. Do not try to reason with yourself. Stop the urge. “Just say no, I won’t” and leave. The more you practice the easier it becomes.
AVOID BAD COMPANY
If you want to give up greed, avoid being with people who are greedy. If you want to give up anger, befriend people with a cool temperament.
CHANGE
Your environment. It has an influence even greater than your willpower. New possibility to adapt to a new lifestyle.
DON’T GIVE IN
The vices the bad habits, they will always try to creep in. They will force you to justify them. Be strong and don’t give in. Only great minds are able to do so. Remember, you will reach back to where you started if you couldn’t resist.
